Fuelled by a passion for design and all aspects of building creation, Encore Projects is a small firm focused on specialty commercial and residential projects in the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations (Vancouver) and traditional territories of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples (Toronto).

What We Build

We thrive on creating spaces that showcase their inhabitants. From small industrial projects, high end retail spaces, boutique restaurants, all the way to custom homes, our projects share a focus on the interaction between the spaces we create, and the people who use them.

Meet the Team

Neto Franco

Principal

With a Mechanical Engineering degree and almost 20 years in the field, Neto's construction experience ranges from large scale projects like gas pipelines, to home renovations. Neto also has extensive business experience, having worked for nine years as a Retail General Manager for JJ Bean Coffee Roasters. Neto understands what businesses need from their spaces, and the relationship between those spaces and their staff and patrons. Solving problems and finding innovative ways of building is one of Neto's main passions.

Karl Schiffmacher

Project Manager (Vancouver)

As a project manager for Encore, Karl specializes in site management and trades coordination. Karl first began building houses as a summer job, while completing his bachelor of science degree at the University of British Columbia. After several years working in the science field he returned to construction, as a part of the in-house maintenance and construction team for JJ Bean Coffee Roasters. During this time, Karl gained hands-on experience with wood framing, steel stud framing and finishing carpentry, as well as building custom cabinets and millwork. He and his team were also awarded the BOMA award for Tenant Improvement of the Year for their work on JJ Bean's Marine Building café. When JJ Bean expanded to Toronto, Karl was selected as the project manger to oversee construction of the entire multi-faceted project, including a coffee roastery, a wholesale office, a wood shop, a tech shop, a commercial commissary, a warehouse as well a café. During this time he also completed an AutoCAD fundamentals certification. Karl works hard to find ways to streamline projects, and credits his efficient site coordination to his German roots.

James Schindel

Project Manager (Toronto)

James has been involved in real estate marketing and development for the past 36 years in Vancouver and most recently in Toronto. He obtained a diploma in Business Administration from the British Columbia Institute of Technology and Urban Land Economics from The University of British Columbia. Throughout his career James has been actively involved in the construction of residential, retail and commercial projects, starting as a framing carpenter. His work has included major renovations of residential properties, new home construction and land development. Most recently James role has been Project Manager overseeing the completion of various projects in the GTA.

Gregg Porter

Site Supervisor

With over 10 years experience as an independent contractor in the field of construction, carpentry and woodworking, Gregg brings many skill sets to his work with Encore Projects. His experiences range from custom furniture building to new construction and renovations including bathrooms, kitchens, custom millwork design and construction, to house lifts. Recently Gregg completed a course in post and beam timber framing with the desire of broadening his skills and for the love of complex joinery. His gentle and respectful manor of interacting with clients has let to many repeat customers over the years
